India has qualified in London Olympic hockey tournament with the help of five goals of Sandeep Singh, in the final qualifying match. Sandeep Singh is the hope of India in 2012 London Olympics. He is the person who was unfortunately injured badly in 2006 with a bullet. But a great come back from the great player.

Sandeep Singh has been a prolific hockey player in both domestic as well as international circuits.

Sandeep Singh in domestic career:

Sandeep Singh played with Indian Airlines hockey team for most of his domestic career. He played an important role as the fullback in the team in many domestic tournaments memorable among them being "Bombay Gold Cup" tournament where Sandeep Singh was adjudged Best Defender of the tournament in March 2004.

 Sandeep Singh in International career:

Sandeep Singh has been consistently performing well for Indian hockey team in the international matches. The  major milestones achieved Sandeep Singh in the international career can be summarised as follows:

>1.Sandeep Singh's international debut was in January 2004 during Sultan Azlan Shah Cup held in Kuala Lumpur.
 2.Sandeep Singh was top goal scorer with 16 goals in Junior Asia Cup Hockey held in Pakistan during the year 2004.
3.Sandeep Singh also emerged as top goal scorer of the tournament at the prestigious Commonwealth games in Melbourne, 2004 .
4.Sandeep Singh made his Olympic debut in Athens Olympics in August 2004.
5.Along with personal glories, Sandeep Singh managed to lead Indian Hockey team to great victories. Sandeep Singh was appointed as the captain of Indian hockey team in January 2009 and lead India to a memorable victory in Azlan Shah cup hockey by beating Malaysia on their home turf in 2009.
 6.Sandeep Singh scored 8 goals in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup organized in Ipoh, Malaysia in 2009 to emerge as the top goal scorer of the tournament. Also, India had won the trophy after 13 long years due to this major contribution.
 7.Sandeep Singh was also adjudged top goal scorer of the tournament with 11 goals at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010.

Great come back:


22th August 2006 was the dark day for Indian hockey team and also for the great hockey player Sandeep Singh. On the day he was traveling with his friend Major Singh in shatabdi express. Suddenly a bullet was mistakenly fired by his friend Major singh direct hit on his thigh. Sandeep singh was badly injured. Hockey lovers of the whole country was shocked by the news. Because he was the hope of the international World cup hockey tournament which was to held only two days after this incident. He could not participate in world cup hockey tournament.

Everyone had understood that all his hockey career had ended. Because hockey is the game where fitness has a big importance and for Sandeep singh, it was really challenging to get it back after such a big injury. But Sandeep singh did not give up. In 2009 He not only came back to the ground but surprised everyone to become a hero in Alzan Shah tournament 2009. Although he could not play the qualifying matches of Olympics 2008. And this was one of the biggest reason India could not qualify in Olympics 2008. He was again injured in may 2011 and again it was looking doubtful to play in the qualifying matches of London Olympics. But he not only played in these matches but performed his best. He became most successful player in these matches and also became the hero in winning final qualifying match of London Olympic. He is the part of the same league where Netherland's Taeke Taekema, Pakistan's Sohail Abbas and Britain's Kalam Gelius are.
